Boyie has arrived

SO, I came home from lunch with my friend “Hot Boy” who is visiting from London for Christmas and another sojourn to the mall (where I ran into “no longer anon”) only to be greeted by the fact that Mc Farlane’s website is up!

If at first you can’t see anything new, click “tools” to the top of your browser window, then “options”, then “clear cache” and refresh the page; you should be able to see the new website then.

Now the website has not fully launched but from the drawings available for viewing the costumes look absolutely stunning! If I were playing in this band it would be a hard decision choosing a section for sure.

What I like about the costumes is that you can immediately identify the theme, some of the costumes looking more like elaborately decorated clothing, and that they are unique since I can not readily recall seeing any costume looking like these in years gone by.

Hopefully this presentation will finally lay to rest the Minshall/ Mc Farlane comparison and I cannot wait to see the website when it is fully launched.

Brian, my man, unless Minshall sways me to something he brings out, I will be doing my "circle wine" with "India" in Port-of-Spain of the still yet to be fully realized, and emerging land of Trinidad!

This mas is so exquisite, it literally had me gasping from one frame to the next. This is the best mas I've seen for this coming year. Do de ting JUSTICE Dougla!
Love de website...
Love the drama...
Love the drawings, they appear as actual art and not some tacky sketches. These could be framed.

Dougla,

I am with you on this. STUNNING!!! I have not yet chosen a band, and I am HIGHLY impresssed with the sketches I see here. For the past million years, I have played bikini mas, but this may be my first year out of a bikini and into art mas.

One thing I have never done though, was to choose a costme based on sketches. I have always waited to see the actual protoype, because sometimes, what is on the sketch is not always what is executed and delivered to the consumer in the mas camp. (Trevor Wallace is a good example of this.) But to his credit, from what I have seen on the road and in the pics, McFarland has always delivered an exceptional end product.

Based on these sketches alone, I am ready to take a leep of faith on McFarland.

Who here has played with McFarland in the past. I would like to hear about your:

costume (construction & comfort)

road experience (safety, food and drink availability, and security)

over all experiences & impressions of this band.

Thanks in advance for sharing!

prettidolli and dougla_1 I really like the costumes as well. I don't know if I am liking the ones that look like a sari of the more abstract pieces.

anon, I can understand your frustration but I am sure the full website will be up soon where you can have a better view.

TOG, masquerade and a few others have played with Mc Farlane; hopefully they can answer your questions.

Happy eve of Christmas eve to everyone!

Look, compared to the bikini mas it win...but it kinda lookin like he jus took some of the old costumes skeletons from last year and the year before and throw some pattern and glitter on them. Being Indian though it's not looking so exotic to me. Not so much a costume. How many Indians it have in Trinidad? I wish it had a little more than the sari here and there, since I have nuff saris and salwar kameez of my own! I totally agree, I am def liking the more abstract pieces.

But let me hush, because anyhow you take it, I will most likely end up jumping with him.

amprincess, you and me same - I almost wish I hadn't registered with Tribe especially where yuh see I still have 10-15 lbs to lose AND my mid-section is in no condition to be exposed in Dragon costume. I need to find McFarlane's "Dhal belly Indian' section and play in dat! :-(

Have a great Christmas Everyone!
For me, carnival is always a wonderful experience, whoever you play with. Last year was excellent playing with Macfarlane, and I know 99% who played last year would play again.
There was a drinks option to which you payed an extra $300 for the two days and there was food available both days to everyone in the band. We stopped for lunch on tuesday. The music was good, surface was the live music band aswell as a tassa band and a dj. security was good, they had plenty and we had no trouble.
Costumes were well constucted, although some were a little cumbersome, though you could put those pieces on a truck until judging points. As well as that, you are free to go to the mas camp anytime to look at how the costumes are constructed. All in all a very nice experience.
Monday wear is usually provided, and i beleive that is the same for 2007.

'rah girl I hear you there! But will you ever have the "ideal" body to play in that Dragon costume?

Masquerader sounds like you had a great time with Mc Farlane! Didn't I hear he is doing a "phagwa" for Monday mas?
