Something strange is going on over at Harts, two more sections have sold out, they are Xen and Oceana.
Of the remaining sections only Herland Orange with small headpiece, Aaru Female turquoise/royal blue and Nirvana are still open. I suspect if Nirvana’s colours were brighter rather than pastel hues that section would have been sold out by now.
Maybe it was the news item on the radio this morning stating that Harts only had five sections remaining, or it could be the fact that Imij and Company will be performing live on the road or that newspaper item today which quoted Harts as having the cheapest prices of the big bands out there. Whatever it is, people are grabbing up the remaining costumes like hot bake! I feel a sense of nostalgia as Harts was my band before discovering the joys of all-inclusive in Poison and I do wish them well. Who knows, maybe if prices keep skyrocketing in the coming years it will be back to Harts for me!
My bet (again) is on Harts for being the first band sold out for Carnival 2007!

that band has always played for harts so that is not new. the cost of the costumes is what is selling. everyone complained that harts don't go everywhere on the road, now everyone has the same route.
"I feel a sense of nostalgia as Harts was my band before discovering the joys of all-inclusive in Poison and I do wish them well....in the coming years it might be back to Harts for me!"
I feel the same way Sauce, de same way...........I would be too glad for them if they're the first to sell out.
Might doesn't make right!
Greed we don't need!
GO HARTS!
AND I love their video clips..
*Sniffle!*
I miss them eh! Memoriesssssssss...
BTW, Sauce did yuh see how meh boi Macfarlane did frame those drawings for his launch? Should I open ah psychic hotline or what?
CALL MEH NOW!!!! 1-868......
man I used to never complain about Harts route, mind you last time I played with them was in 2001. We crossed stage first then went all over the place except downtown. Is only with Poison I started going downtown, but didn't know what I was missing when I was with Harts. They used to have a live band and then stopped in the years I played so I didn't know they started back.
Dolli call meh now :D
I must admit my head was turned in recent years by the lure of the 'all inclusive' experience offered by Poison, Tribe, IP and the like. I keep hearing about goody bags, special Monday wear etc. and I can't deny - it's all rather tempting.
But I've never regretted my decision to stick with Harts over the years. I always have to be dragged away from the band come Tuesday night. We may not be the youngest or the coolest, but I always feel like I am among friends and family when I play with them. There are dozens of faces I see year after year, even if I never know the names. Not just among my fellow masqueraders, but in the security team, the cart attendants, and the tassa band (oh LAWD ah love that tassa band). There is a sense of people looking out for each other instead of competing with each other, even though there are exceptions, of course.
I don't think that can ever be reproduced for me in the more popular bands. Yes the costumes are stunning and the drinks are flowing like water, but that's not what does it for me. Maybe it's because I'm getting old - LOL - But the fact that people are still scooping up Harts costmes means that I'm not growing old by myself. :o)
squeezle Harts costumes are very pretty and always well constructed, it's just that the style looks the same from years gone by. I am sure if they changed up the formula they could give the new bands a run for their money! For example they need to loose the cape!!And a lot of the headpieces are designs that they use every year.
Other than that the costumes always look fabulous with rich colour, I don't know what dyes they use for feathers but is always vibrant!! And they do use a lot of feathers in the headpieces too. This year I noticed many of the costumes using different beads and trimmings, there was a time all you could see on Harts costumes were one type of beads.
The thing is though seeing them up close in the mas camp you get the full effect and see the little differences, but online it does not translate the same. Again, they need to get rid of that black background and taking pics in a studio.
I will not lie to tell you Harts is a band I will def. return to in future if prices keep going up and up. I never once paid for drinks and I used to get drinks flowing all day from somebody cart :D
Why allyuh getting so nastalgic. Harts is STILL the band with the prettiest women (of ALL ages) I see in any random cluster of any band in Trinidad. I love seeing Harts EARLY Tuesday morning, when all the women makeup and body glitter fresh and their feathers the perkiest.
The only reason I haven't considered playing with Harts is I like playing "theatrical" mas.
baby jane dolli, I remember when you said MacFarlane's sections pictures (the previews) were works of art to be framed. Nice. Ah go skip the call, but can you read palms too? :D
Yuh know, ah playing in "India..." (registered, done), section 11, "Kaal".
Congrats to Harts on a job very well done. Keep doing your thing and thank god Harts did not sell out and also get greedy to follow in Tribe lead. Tribe, IP and Flatline 8 rushed to launch their crazy prices to the public. I just went to look at Island People website and was very shock that they only showing five sections as sold out. Did their webmaster forget to update their website or something?
They all have way too much pride and need to drop their prices if they want to sell their costumes. Dream Team actually has one section as sold out. While flat line Pulse 8 don't seem to be selling any costumes either. They all launch over 6 months ago so with only month to go they need to do a 180 and drop their prices.
I not interested in paying for no fireworks that they had at the launch. I hope this is a leason for those greedy band leaders not to try to bring these prices again next year.
"there was a time all you could see on Harts costumes were one type of beads"
You could go ahead and say it: CHRISTMAS TREE BEADS!!! But I love the noise they make when everybody start wining in unison - clack, clack, clack
Ah, memories!
Girl I liked those christmas tree beads; they were the notched ones not the smooth round mardi gras beads and to ME it used to make the costume look rich. Not only was the belt heavier but the "swish" swish" sound was awesome!!
These new fancy beads you see on costumes now look so cheap! It's almost like they cutting costs all round and using these skimpy beads. One thing I noticed when I looked at Harts' costumes this year was that they do not skimp on beads or feathers :D
HARTS all the way. i'm playing with them and i do not regret my decision at all.
Saucy - maybe you should do a post for pople who not playing in all-inclusive bands, about tips on buying food and playing mas.
bekky I did mention tips on buying food in the Carnival Virgin Survivor's Guide.
Saucy - first before I get to the subject at hand, I hafta say that I just love reading your blog and have recommended it to many Carnival babies in Toronto.
Now - I am playing in Harts this year as usual, as after playing with them for so long...it's like Squeezle says - it's almost family now. I also think that the reason Harts has sold out so fast this year, is that in addition to having the cheapest pretty costumes - they have an influx of people from Skandalus, as that band is not coming out this year and most of the people in Skandalus in past years were from Harts originally. What do you think?
"Harts is STILL the band with the prettiest women (of ALL ages) I see in any random cluster of any band in Trinidad. I love seeing Harts EARLY Tuesday morning, when all the women makeup and body glitter fresh and their feathers the perkiest."
Yes, Dougla we did sweet eh!
BTW, I does read palms, coconut shell, and banana leaf. ;) And is BAD JANE Dolli...LOL! Meh OUT & BAD!
Swish, swish Sarce nah gyel. One big ol' SWISH!
anon that Skandalus comment is something to think about for true! I did not think about that before but it makes perfect sense!
What section are you with in Harts?
Yeah - is definitely the Skandalus input dat give Hart the jump. I am in Nevada section - ah tired ah headpiece jooking my head or falling off - so ah gone with cowboy hat - das my kinda a mas. Like you wid the fireman hat. If it wasn't so expensive in Tribes - your section woulda been the section that I would have wanted to play in. Ah love a hat too bad especially on a hot Carnival day.
Cool, Nevada is a nice section. One of the first to sell out actually. I am thinking for 2008 Harts might see me again yes!
