After my mini consultation with my makeup artist last Friday on whether to use face jewels or not, I remembered last year I gave periodical tips on makeup, eyelash and body jewel applications which will hopefully be useful to those doing their own makeup for Carnival.
Now, I normally do my own makeup for Carnival but this year I have decided to try using a makeup artist for two reasons a) every year I alone end up buying matching makeup and having to do not only my face but other friends as well leaving me rushed to finish getting ready and b) the makeup aritst is doing face jewels which I have never experimented with and the package deal of having my lashes and makeup done for one price was too good to pass up.
As we draw closer to the big day, many of you are in the process of purchasing makeup or have already started practising at home, see Trini By Injection's
post and photos about her free makeup trial from M.A.C. Hopefully these tips will help, oh, and I was advised that I will be "tan" enough on Tuesday after being browned in the sun so I can use the face jewels and not worry about having spots all over my face (from tan marks) come Ash Wednesday.

i went for a make up session at the mac counter last year - i purposely pass by there in slow motion so dey coulda ketch meh. lol!! anyway, since then i've been playing with different colors and looks so i'm ready! i got this! hee hee....
anon I think I remember when you said you were going for a free makeup trial ! Too bad MAC in Trinidad insists you buy makeup before getting the trial :S
saucy, for your makeup session, are you going by the makeup artist or are they coming to you? and do you already have your own makeup colors and stuff, or are you using what they have?
anon I am going to her place and she is using her own stuff, with the exception of foundation, I am walking with my own.I told her what my costume is so she is going to do makeup to match.
hey saucy is there any other camouflage makeup that you could recommed than the sacha....(which is good)
I called to order the sacha and they told me that they no longer have it that they are making some improvements on the product!
sexy eyes, I bought Sacha Kamaflage not this weekend but the weekend before. So unless they pull it off the shelf a week later I am sure they still have some. I got mine at the Sacha place on the corner of French Street and wrightson Road. I jsut get up to go and look at the container to make sure i buy the right ting yes...it doesn't actualyl say Kamaflage anywhere on the compact which is suspect. But the little chick sold me the kamaflage setting powder with the 'kamaflage' i bought. And i tried it, it covers and stays on and is definitely not foundation, its thicker than foundation.
hey saucy, the link for "applying false eyelashes" doesn't work. can you take a look? thanks so much for this info...
Dermablend is wayyy better than Sacha Kamalflage. The Kamaflage remains to oily and never seems to dry matte
im having the same problems also
Jus had to put my 2 cents in for di whole makeup stuff. Bare Escentuals has a wonder set called beyond the basics. It is like foundation but it is very light & natural looking & stays on all day. The set includes a primer & a pore minimizer. I love it! You can get on line at Sephora.com but the things is you have to go in for them to match the makeup to your skin tone. It is well worth it though. I ended up buying the set for my Best friend for X-mas so she can use it for CArnival too & she is extremely happy wit di product. Oh & P.S. The product is all nature minerals.
ok fixed the eyelash link!
trinibyinjection why you had to come and say that, it does vex me that we in Trinidad doh get all dem fancy ting.
sexyeyes Carnival Jumbie already recommended the other coverup product which is dermablend.
hey thanks alot jamette think i'll go there this weekend!!
Saucy if i dont get the sacha i think i'll finally give up and get the Dermablend!!!
yeah i figured the dermablend was the hot stuff but sacha is way cheaper and I don't even know if I will be too lazy to use it on the day. So i bought it to play with it really. To try it out a couple times. AND i might not even need it to hide my stretch marks if my corset long enough AND they (stretch marks) actually don't bother me that that much. Is just fasness why i went and buy it. But I am sure if i was using it on my legs like some ppl i would have bought the dermablend so it really depends on how badly you need and want to hide whatever it is
Hey Gyrl, we reach in 3 days!!!!!!:)!!!!!!
Was talking w Buuble yesterday & we were wondering if you'd do a post warning foreigners who've never been about some things they NEED to know about T'dad, like don't bring camouflage clothing.
This isn't something were told, & you can find out the hard way very unfortunately like what happened to Buuble, which really sucks.
Saucy ah sorry. I thought maybe all yuh could go online to get it man. Lol!
Karabana, good idea about the warnings, my fren went to Trinidad wit some camouflag pants & at the airport they pulled her aside & made a big scene about it. Dais di last thing peeps does need during Carnival time to get into trouble for your fashion.
Saucy, what time do you have to go to your makeup person on Tuesday morning. I'm really considering finding one, and I know time is running out.
girl, I have to go to her at 5:00AM!!
I missed the 6:00AM slot but she did offer me the option of getting dressed by her.
i lucked out there - my makeup person is coming to me : )
I am not my makeup artist's only customer unfortunately plus I live in the East.. they charge extra for house visits in the East LOL.
i'm not her only customer either but she for some reason offered to come to my home, which i was cool with cuz she living quite up arima and i in diego, so yuh done know what time i woulda have to get up come carnival tuesday.
i can only assume that the people she have to make up living down on my side?? she say she reaching by me 5 o'clock and she have 3 ppl to do in my house alone so me eh know how much others she have
that's good, going to Arima doh make sense so I guess that's why she is coming to you. Good deal! And 5:00am! Madness eh? LOL.
Saucy, it's just going to be just kajal for me (I'll ask my cousin to try a black shadow on the eyelids, but I don't thing I might like the look, but if it works ah go go with dat). There isn't anything more creative I want to do, because when I am playing the India "Kaal" mas full, my face will be mostly hidden by the mask I will be wearing. Of course, yuh know that go be resting on top of my head most of the day, because I don't want to have my face hidden all the time. Also, I will be wearing silver body glitter just like the type you had in the picture you shared of the time in Harts (one thing about body glitter, I observed, is too much look like a mess, especially the more grainy type).
I did get a pair of Indian wedding shoes for men. I was quite happy I found them in an Indian store in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. It is quite simply with embroidery (white thread) on the front top and the sides. I had to whiten it a bit and will colour some of the embroidery threads, after I pick up my costume to match the proper shade of blue. I tested the technique with a blue marker, and being careful colours the threads I want only (nice!). Also, I had the heel replaced to a harder material for the road. The original heel was too spongy, and would wear away within 2 hours of heavy jamming on the road....lol.
Just a few more days (until Feb 10th) now, and AH REACH!!! The culture explosion is on my mind right thru :D
Yup, your costume has that mask but the black eye shadow will givet the illusion of hollow eyes when you do wear the mask.
Sounds like you all set and ready to go, do not forget the sunblock!!
Check on the sunblock.
The first year I played mas I got sunburned!!!(for sure, black people do get sunburn...; ) )
Dougla_1 - I had to do the same thing for my boots. I colored the threads on my boots to black with a permanent marker - talk about taking forever - and the boots are knee high - I think I could have had my hair braided at the same time. I can't wait to see your whole costume/mas together.
gtwarrior, yes darlin, sometimes yuh just wouldn't feel right with a little detail like that missing. But it's real work, and we wouldn't have it any other way...lol.
Knee high boots!!! I can't wait to see YOU in YOUR costume!!! :D
