Outwitted, Out Maneuvered, Out Played???

So every year I obsesses over the line up, I think by now it is common knowledge that I personally prefer not to be at the back of the band. However much you may not care where your section is placed, I do. Anyway sources have informed me that the line up for TRIBE has been done and my section is placed somewhere between 10 to 15!!

The reason why this news makes it even more interesting is that the lineup was not done by Super Mo Mo this year and the persons in charge of that job threw every theory I have complied out the window! As far as I am hearing one designer has THREE sections in the top five, while others have all their sections placed at the back! Not to mention that Pheasant is leading the band and no offense to anyone in this section, it is pretty, but I do think the colour is a little dull to be first. Something vibrant should lead the way but I guess it is numero uno because the President is in it.

In addition the flow of the colours, in my brain at least, does not seem to be working.... brown, followed by blue then followed by pink and orange? Huh? Anyway what do I know since I am not the expert, though I fully agree that Caged Canary needs a top 5 spot at least; that costume is absolutely gorgeous and will have maximum impact on the road.

And before you think I am a prima donna about section placement for 2009 I am wholly embracing not being #1 and was quite willing to settle for a section in the top 5. However I find it insulting to the designer of my section to place this FABULOUS costume at #10 and I am not just saying that because I am in it. The beauty would be lost in the back, just like what happened with Fireman in 2007 !!!

Other sections I heard placed to the back are Spangled Cotinga and Brazilian Macaw, now tell me if that makes sense as two of THE most popular sections they are bringing up the rear? Macaw has something like 60 frontlines! And Cotinga is the largest section in the band. The creme de la creme is that Hummingbird is placed with the Red 96.7 truck! In all the years playing with TRIBE I have never known a section where Lana is playing that is NOT near that truck! In fact every single norm that I have come to expect for the lineup has been changend!

Hopefully that Member's Guide was not sent off to the printers and someone would hand over the job of a proper section lineup to whom it belongs, afterall I don't call her "Super Mo Mo" for nothing!

That line up sounds crazy to me, To think that all the colorful sections are being pushed to the back, is plain madness.

ummmmmmmmmm..... ok Saucy I agree with you on the lineup i agree that Pheasant should not be first. the colours are a little boring even for me, but it is a nice costume... The only good thing about it is that all yuh dont have to worry about Max's bodyguards moving everyone in the middle of the band.

Hear nah I not doing the 10-15 again.

Fireman was a mess when the band split after South Quay.

I not going through that this year. Super Mo Mo kindly fix this mess!!!

I don't mind if they leave Pheasant as number one but I cannot see Blue Tanager following it to be honest!

Socaholic I am 100% with you.

I am not liking the fact that my section is first, not liking the fact that the Pres chose to play mas in my section - after all the reports I got last year. Anyway, thats only for crossing the judging points and I should be hanging with my pallies in for the rest. My crew is spread out, so we'll probably reassemble by a truck. I'm usually in the top 5, but never first.

Orders of sections never matter to me. However I am bummed that my section is first and that the president is in my section.

But at the end of the day as long as the drinks are flowing and my coustume looks great - I will be happy.

What everybody fussing about? Everybody can't be in the top 5 every year. I just happy I playing with Tribe, the other options do not look so good. Saucy, you self....you should know when yuh in the top 5 and hubby who in another band trying to jump with Tribe does get brace by security and get put out the band. He could try that when yuh in a later section and maybe security and special forces might not ketch him so fast. So maybe this might work out for you. Cause yuh remember no amount of reasoning with security that he just want to jump with his wife does get him back in the band.
Anyway peeps this is all about having a good time with friends and drinks. See yuh on de road.

I'm not playing with Tribe, but the line-up does seem kind of off. Just based on flow of colours, the section order is doing the band an injustice! Much of the beauty may be lost.
The only reason I can think of as to why Macaw and Continga are in the back is due to their size (weren't these sections expanded?). I think you would have a whole lot more upset and angry masqueraders if two large sections like that were in the middle of the band. So maybe the thinking is that the larger numbers would still have impact in the rear and the band would still look cohesive at the end ... just a thought :-)

Saucyyyyyyyyyyy...this is a total disaster...that section lineup making me nauseous...and I know the MAJORITY of die-hard Tribers will agree..being that "when Saucy talks, people listen"..pleazze be our voice to the powers that be over at Tribe..so they can wake up and set this straight..for a band who claims to care so much about what their masqueraders say, and prides themselves on customer service, where have they been the past few years?? Where the feedback from MOST regulars is the desire to be in front or close to the front..How could they put a section like Spangled Cotinga (and BM) to the back? Cotinga was the most sought after costume from the get-go...Blue Tanger 2nd? That costume was one of the last to sell out...it makes no sense whatsoever..I hope/pray this will be resolved or there will be alot of unhappy campers..

AHH Saucy it all depends on how you see the cup half full or half empty.
I don’t have a clue on Tribes presentation methods but from your description, with the better sections bringing up the rear, it just might be that the brains at Tribe just might be aiming for a visual climax at the judging points.
A great presentation builds to a great climax thus the most dramatic costumes at the rear and the weaker ones up front...you don’t want to leave the judges with a weak anticlimax now do you?

just a thought....

Actually sippy he was not IN the band he was on the side in the street.. public domain ent? That was what the contention was about since the police wanted to tell him that he could not even be IN THE STREET on the side of the band.. good luck to all those who in Max section this year!!

Anyway he is with TRIBE this year so we not even going that route.

And as I said I doh care about who doh want to be in the top 5, great that others don't care but I do!!!

For everyone who want to be in a top 5 section. Choose a band with ONLY 6 sections....your odds are greatly increased.
