Although I am a bit skeptical to believe the unnamed "government source" who revealed to the Trinidad Express that work is expected to start on the National Carnival and Entertainment Centre in March, I can only hope that some official will announce exactly when construction is due to commence and end.
The name of the building has changed, the proposed name initially was the National Carnival and ARTS Centre, and I am going to guess that the design will change as well. This was the previous artist rendering:
And the proposed stage for masqueraders with seating capacity for 15,000 spectators.
One can live in hope that a Carnival Stage is looming somewhere in the future right?
So, tell me are you in favour of the return of the stage? Remember the wait to enter the Savannah, bands at a standstill on Charlotte Street for hours on end? Do you think that this problem will be alleviated with the construction of the National Carnival Centre? And finally what are the benefits of mas on the road, is it really "mas on the move"?
Thoughts, opinions, comments.. all welcomed.

hell yes!! bring back the stage. that was the highlight on carnival mon and tue and that was lost when the stage was gone. there is no more poison so i think things wld flow a little better.
I actually have two minds about it....yes i like my stage and whatever, but with so many new bands appearing and so forth, that will be madness time to cross this stage which includes massive pile up and rush to reach the stage in good time....and yes it can be well organised from before hand, however, when its time to execute on Carnival Mon and Tue, thats another story.
I actually dont mind crossing where I'm crossing right now (still end up on tv anyway ;))....
On another note, how come they building this thing on the savannah??? Can someone correct me if im wrong, but wasn't it part of the agreement when the savannah was handed over from being private property that nothing concrete and permanent is to be placed on it??? I dunno....maybe im wrong...
I do not enjoy this so-called "mas on the move". It's so anti-climactic. Playing in Miami this year really reminded me how much fun a stage is. Hopefully the new carnival centre will be built in a way to alleviate the previous waiting times? I don't know. But I can't wait to cross a stage in Trini.
Well unfortunately, I never got a chance to experience the stage as I've only been playin mas for 2 yrs now so I can't miss what I really never had. So either way it works for me I guess..as Shellss stated, I end up on tv anyways :)
Ok here goes, while i welcome them constructing this " new stage " at this point it does not matter to me because NOTHING will ever be able to capture the true stage essence than the old one. But, Change is good right? let's hope so. IF it is in fact true that construction will begin in march of 2010 masqueraders will probably not be crossing "the stage" until probably 2013 (my guess).
So while in the past i did not mind the bottleneck and the waiting for hours on charlotte street to cross the stage , that was a horse of a different color we were dealing with. i will save judgement for when i've been able to palance myself all over the "new" stage, only then will i be able to give a fair judgement.
Waiting patiently as i have for the past howevermany years
IF we are ever to get a "National Carnival and Entertainment Centre" built, it well take at LEAST 5 years and cost over 500 million!
As soon as they stand to benefit personally from building it, (other than the fact that about 2/3 of the money will get pocketed), we will get one.
I miss the old stage. You really feel like you are putting on a show -- and that is part of mas. This new center could be our own Sambadome and nothing is wrong with that. So heck yeah bring back the Stage.
As for the painfully long wait to cross the downtown "stage", we're still doing that now anyway. Hell, bands get stuck in town ALL DAY trying to get to South Quay. And this is without Poison on the road. As it is, downtown is no more efficient than the Savannah.
Lord knows what will it take to change that bottleneck.
Hellssss yeah! They need to bring back the stage. In my opinion there is no need for such a grand building. A more modern version of the old will suffice in my opinion!
Thats a great news and can anyone tell me what is the specific date about the construction of this national carnival and entertainment centre.
Thanks,

You guys..the construction of this new building is to not only bring modern vibes to trinidad carnival...but to also attract foreigners. Carnival is not only a celebration but a business. Yes we do miss and prefer the stage I will agree, but we need to modernized our economy also. When this project is complete I know everyone will be in amazed to see how far we have come with this event. Queens park is centralized in Port of Spain to become a center piece throughout the world. Look at the development in port of spain today with the water front and performance art center etc...
