Kaotic's website is finally up and ready for registration and the costumes are not looking bad at all, some of the males need serious help but that seems to be the trend these days in all mas bands.
Island People is slowly selling out sections, Nakshatra frontline is now sold out, as much as they do protest, wanting something new and different, seems like masqueraders do love their feathers!
Spice and Hilton Trinidad Hotel need to have some sort of communication about their 40% off room discount promotion for Spice masqueraders. Though the promotion is already advertised the Hilton Trinidad has no information on it!
I wonder how long it will take TRIBE to get the feathers I heard have been allegedly seized by customs? Word is the supplier did not provide relevant documents and the feathers have not been released to the band as yet. And I am really liking that TRIBE have extended the fast track deadline until January 15th; more time to hold unto the money in your pocket!
Harts might as well put a sold out sign on Witches Brew/Inferno and Lights, Camera, Action/Adventures of the High Seas as those are the only two female costumes not sold out as yet, unless they are planning a costume revamp; those were my least favorite sections anyway. The new costume classifieds section on Harts website for sales and those looking for costumes is pretty cool, more bands should do this.
I cannot believe Trini Revellers' website still has sections "coming soon", it's not like the other section photos are professional anyway, can't they use a photograph from the band launch like some of the others?
So I guess by now we can safely say Evolution will not be making a showing for Carnival 2010, unless they plan a December launch of course. I am betting they sit out next Carnival season, especially since the former band leader is going to be king of another band!

I for one wanted something different and I got it. I was too through with the cookie-cutter Vegas Showgirl design. I'm loving de saris and dem!!!!
There are people out there who do want it. Remember, Sonia Mack's mini Tan-Tan all-fabric frontline along with other options were sold out in pre-reg. No feathers in that section and sales are pretty good so far. Taal backline has zero feathers and that was gone too. The colors were a divine combo and it's a cute/sexy design, that's why it's a hit. Yet Bindi frontline has plentiful feathers in the headpiece and backpack (the backpack was shown in the band launch pics)and has not sold out yet. Hmmm......
So many factors are affecting the trends for Carnival right now, it's not just one thing. Frankly, I suspect people are still pissed off with IP. YET, Spice can't seem to pick up the slack from IP. And Spice's costumes are off the meter hot. They should've been sold out by now. Maybe it's the world economy affecting people's spending choices.

maybe it is because some bands have increased the numbers in sections to stifle yet another" threat" , much to the protest of the loyal masqueraders who said it was difficult to enjoy themselves last year.As far as spice goes there is much speculation and i would not jump to say that is a shame just yet, you may have to eat those words, especially knowing the level of customer relations in Trinidad,instructions and information take extra long to trickle through the chain of command. IPM's costume have never been the problem it is the service that has people thinking twice.
I know for a FACT that SPICE is on par with all of the preparations right now and the band is indeed doing well, but as they say "the proof is in the pudding!
I think price could be a factor with Spice as it is still a fairly new band.
babydoll! it is price we was all set to register with them a big group of us! way back in july and when we saw the prices we were put off! esp with all the other cost increases for thos of us coming from the UK! at this point in time if the budget is tight people will sacrifice playing in an "IT" band crystals and all the fluffage just to actually play mas! at the end of the day once i have my peeps and a glue gun im happy! and can make anything work! geeze we played in Hot Oil in Kaotic this year and made that work!

Richard, as for customer relations being slow in Trinidad, that may be true but it's still a damn shame to be ignorant of what's going on in your company. Not a good look.

It will be interesting to see how the numbers for C2K10 turn out considering how everyone is watching their $$$$.
We all know that bands like Tribe and Harts are sold out, but it awaits to be seen how many people will be able to pay off their costumes in full and actually play. I suspect by day of distribution there will be alot of unpaid costumes for resale.
The established bands WILL have their supporters, but the NEW bands, I would love to see how much they pull...considering the costumes are AWEFUL and prices are too high.
It will be interesting to see if MACFARLANE fills his quota, given the extremely high prices this year and lack of all-inclusive. However, we need to remember that he caters for a niche market.

hmmm Richard although you are the indipendent company supplying you design services to Spice, will you and you company also be accountable for any hicups involving Costume Quality, Production and Delivery?? in my head im thinking you are! so therfore if the band falls flat on its face Costume wise people will be more so looking at you guys! all i can say is im glad im not playing wit Spice now! the band coming off very mixup and blend!
MR.B, accountable or not we are indeed on the same team and i will do whatever it takes to make sure the band is a a success, do not let my explanation guide your thoughts otherwise, that would be a terrible mistake on your part, and as for playing or NOT playing in Spice, that is personal choice and i am one to always say you should go where your heart or your pocket can take you, as for accountability, i do not know if you realize, but the "mas" industry has changed here in Trinidad, it is no longer,operating as a "chinee shop" method we have clearly defined roles such as Designers,Accountants, Administration,....... so everyone has their clearly defined roles and they all take responsibility for their actions, but to set the record straight,we all work together so the success is a team effort. hope this set the record straight.
Hey Richard, I meant ignorance on Hilton's part, not you or Spice since it's Hilton who claims not to have info about the promo. Sorry you misinterpreted my second comment :)

Richard, my comments were aimed at the Mas production side of the band nothing to do with the internal structure and financial runnings of the band! lol i mean you may think i am niave, but im not the structure of spice is not unique or new, mas worldwide is run this way in alot of reputable Mas Companies!
ie Management committee, acountant, design team, production team, promotion, sponsorship and publicity! moving away from the "CHINEE SHOP" way!
as i said my comments were not aimed at that it just seemed your were disconecting yourself from responsability!

Dude as i said before, i am not nor ever was denying responsibility, i take credit for the work I do An I am in charge of, as far as production goes i can only take credit for the work i do not the factories in China, Indian or here in Trinidad, every single picture that i post BELONGS to ME and was done by ME.
