So, how many of you will be canceling costumes or fete tickets to go VVIP at the Concert which is sponsored by Bmobile?

I saw Beyonce on the I Am Tour in Miami and this summer and the concert was well worth it. I'm not sure if I will spend more money to see her again. But for those that have never seen her before, this will be worth your while!

While I have been known to have the odd 'Beyonce moment', I'm not a big enough fan to go and spend any more of my husband's hard-earned money on this.

So no Beyonce for me. But I hope AC goes and does one of her hilarious reviews!

I won't be spending my money either bunny, so you'll have to wait for Saucy's review ;)

Strange move. I don't see many Trini's spending the money to go see Beyonce after the expensive carnival season. If I get comps I'll go.

I think the concert will be well patronized. As much as this blog is about Carnival 365 days a year the fact is a good percentage of the Trinidad population does not participate in Carnival.

For example I can count on ONE hand the regular mas players in my office, and probably the same for those who go to all the Carnival fetes.

For those people I am sure the concert will be appealing, as well as to those sitting out Carnival for 2010.

To echo what Saucy has said regarding the patronage of the concert - for a lot of visiting Trinidadians, this Beyonce concert comes at the right time. As many of you know in the US it is very much an exasperated "rat race" when it comes to your 40 hr (or more) job, bills, kids etc etc that sometimes you dont have the time to see these artists when they are right in your "foreign" backyard. So to know that while you are relaxing in a country for your leisure - why not go see an artist you may have missed...

I for one will be there cause who knows - she may want somebody to hide her "butt pads" with a nice feathery backpiece in homage to Carnival and I right there!!!

Please - a Beyonce concert with a cold stag in my hand sounding real good! Up here when you have to go Beyonce you cant even drink (alcoholic) beverages when you up front in VIP! (at least in my home state)

i live around the corner from the oval. i don't have to go to the concert, i can just sit out on my front porch. nice.

Sauce, you're absolutely right about that -- not everyone in Trinidad participates in carnival on a regular. I have friends and family there who skip a couple years or more of playing mas and hardly fete.

DesigningDARYL, you're correct in all that you said. In NY (where I am)it's an absolute Olympic sprint to snag tickets for hot artistes like Beyonce, those tickets are gone as soon as the announcement is made. Sold out in a day or two!!!! Remember, Americans will camp out overnight to be first in line for Black Friday sales and for whatever fanatic mess that comes out. I can't be bothered with all that.
I prefer to see Bey in Trini, less stress.

Saucy you are right in that a good percentage of the population does not participate in carnival, some for religious reasons, some people do not like crowds and some just could not care less.

I believe though that the main reason for that is because carnival and everything carnival related including fetes, shows, mas is simply becoming such an expensive endeavor that most people simply cannot afford.

It is sad to see this because it is our culture which has been turned into such a huge money making venture participation is not an option for many people.

I'd have to disagree with some of that greg. A lot of people don't take part in Carnival simply because they don't want to. Nothing to do with cost. I know my mother for one, simply has no desire to take part. She's never played mas and never will, but does go to a few 'grown-up' fetes and a tent or two with my dad and she watches Dimancge Gras and the parade of the bands on telly. So I think she most def falls into that category of people who don't really 'take part' in Carnival.

And I know she's not alone.
