Say What?

So News reaching the sauce is that for Carnival 2011 a certain band will NOT be allowing pre registration, not even by private section leaders; the only way you can get a "hook up" to be in the band is through the band leader ONLY! This shift in a long standing policy was because of some bacchanal that took place, it is rumored, one can only guess what drama took place as the word is mum on that situation. But, I can tell you people are STILL getting the hook up even the though the band has been sold out since August!

Well I guess if rumours of the other band are true for 2011 then there will be more than one way to be in with the in crowd. No pre registration? Whatever will the ones who have never lined up to register OR even go online do?

Also, I was told that a certain band flouting registration figures of over 1000 masqueraders to date allegedly only have 500 or thereabouts registered. An improvement from 2009 if this is indeed true, but nothing close to the numbers they were hoping for.

As for the costume quality controversy involving this particular band, well the sauce was reliably informed that the VERY congenial vendor, used to produce costumes, has been showing many people what the samples look like! From reports front line masqueraders should not be worried, and the situation with the regular costumes has been "worked out by the band leader"; lets just hope this is true as well and the final product is just as great as the protoype.

Anyway, word is that the vendor in question was also being sourced by other bands but upon viewing the quality of work was not used, reason giving why this particular band went with said vendor, even though standards were not up to par, is simply because this was the only vendor willing to work within budget even though said vendor knew that the quality of costumes desired would not be attained using the bands budget per costume.

Again these are all ALLEGATIONS and I am reporting it as I get it!

I think you mean Carnival 2011 Sauce!

But if those rumours are true, then I say bring it on!! All them neighbour uncle tantie cousin frien' who accustom registering before the rest of us even know prices, will be joining the proletariat for the annual registration scrum.

Too delicious to even contemplate!

Said bandleader might need to change their number yes! ;)

Oh no! What happened to the 1200? I am ever so shocked!! Well, somebody's eyes were bigger than their tummy. But maybe for 2011, with the lack of pre-reg in the previous band, they might be able to pounce and steal some people away.

Roll on 2k10!

From 1900 to 1200 to 1000 to 500. Fascinating! Kudos to those "reliable" sources you have!

Saucy aka "The Sauce" said...

Well Classy, is a good thing I didn't state any numerical masquerader equivalent as FACT !!!

Like I said it is all "alleged" and "rumoured"... the only thing I can rely on my sources for (some from right inside the same mas camp) is that they will continue to humour me with daily gossip and bacchanal :D

Like I said, HOW I GET IT, IS HOW I SELLING IT!

Ay ay ay!!!
I was falling asleep at meh desk here, but Saucy you wake me up proper with this piece of gossip!!! I'm so glad I never sweated a band that hard, so I for one will not be crying about free paper burn for pre-reg.

Carnival is Bachannal in trute!!!

oh gosh never mind! so spice really aint as big as they making out never mind! next time they should create costumes with a realistic price tag! ie less than tribe! then maybe people like myself would have considered them, they need to work on the brand before they charging top buck regardless to weather the costumes are nice or not!

re Tribe and de hook up ting som eah my crew would have been part ah that drama too but we was told only 3 of us could get the hook up to go un noticed there is 10 of us and only 2 of us had tlc numbers so was not worth the hassle! but hey looks like tribe go be even more uber exclusive for 2011! good luck to dem people will jus get fed up and look else where!

Oh wait - do you remember way back in September when Spice made the claim they had over 1000 registrations in response to me stating that they did not even have 100 sign ups and everybody was getting on like I eh know what I talking bout. Also I told you Saucy that based on that claim by Spice they should be sold out by December. Funny that they now saying is only 500.

Anyway, that an all eh true. Now here is a fact. Said band bussing real bad. They still have less than 200 sign-ups. They claiming 500 but is less than 200.

Doh say I eh warn yuh, but their masqueraders going to get serious short change with their costumes, with service and on the road.

I was right about the sign ups in September and I am telling you I am right about the less than 200 now as well. Wait an see if I eh right about the rest in time to come.

Saucy I want an award for most reliable information provided by a blogger when I turn out to be right eh.

For once I agree with Bachanalmas. Is the end nigh???

But what you said is exactly what I've been saying about Spice. You need to cultivate your brand before you drop price on people so.

But they might get lucky next year if the other band really DOES forbid pre-reg.

And mas jumbie, I never doubted you. Your logic made perfect sense to me then and it does now. We'll see what happens come February!

lol @ Mas Jumbie these 500 rumours are swirling from people who say they hear/know/see.. but NOT officially from the band in question....

but the band in question almost never responds to our queries or comments.

200 like i shoulda go ip with d rest of d crew...steups

quiksilver said...

yeah right. they will SAY they not pre-registering, but the usual will prevail for 2011.

They doh respond to queries from anyone here or on their facebook page or in fact anywhere. That speaks volumes about their service and what you can expect.

My understanding is that it is a bunch of young, inexperienced individuals running and managing the band and they have gotten by thus far because the bandleader father have a deep pocket and apparently believe that they could buss Tribe and mske millions...doh mind they lorse a few million already and gearing up to lose a few more in 2010. I seeing ppl getting serious shortchange in 2010

Spice - UNMATCHED Service is easier promised than delivered. Some advice - Start by having the COURTESY to respond to people's concerns and queries.

wheyyy never a dull moment!

I totally agree with mjsbunny: If yuh new in d game u cannot and should never compete DIRECTLY against an established name. You need a gimmick, lower price something to draw people to your product... I wish them luck (but with all d mess with costume quality issues and the deafening silence with customer queries it seems that they shooting themselves in d foot)

With the pre-registration drama: what can I say. If it's available or not, it's all up to us as the masquerader to make an informed decision about how you part with your hard earned cash.

Hi all,

well let me add my peace to the gravy...
as many of us here I am a carnival addict....when i migrated to Trinidad i got hooked with carnival ...started with Poison and then tried island People for two years....
now this year my girlfriends and I will be playing with spice....
did we have much more choices? yes...but we choose spice...we were getting a 'hook up' for tribe but were not comfortable handing out money before registration even started and then we all agreed that Carnival is not tribe and tribe is not Carnival...

now the purpose of my post is that i am tired of always reading negatives stuff about all the other bands on this blog....i love your blog Saucy ...have been following for years....but come on man!!...this is the "Trinidad Carnival Diary' and not 'Tribe Carnival Diary..." ....what would all potential masqueraders do if they were reading so much negative comments about all the other bands and cant get into the only band that is getting good review? they will simply go somewhere else..and that is not what we all want...there is so much unexplored business opportunities we have not yet started to tapped in so let's try not to discourage potential tourists....

all yuh could stay in all yuh tribe...but don't make it look like this only where the fun is...

so far, spice customer service has been excellent...every time i visited the mas camp there were people registering...

no matter what band we playing with what matters is to be on the road....

Flo are you speaking about the comments left regarding this post or about what is written on the blog?

As for your statement about this being "TRIBE Carnival Diary" I am sure you did not miss the controversy surrounding TRIBE's registration as well as pre registration, that was written about on the blog.

Not to mention the costume review I gave was not all glowing; TRIBE probably got one of the worst reviews of Carnival 2010 presentations from me. TRIBE does not get only positive reviews on this blog, I have written about the good, bad and ugly about TRIBE many times... but seemingly people always miss the bad and ugly parts!
