February 16, 2017: The Socadrome will be back as an event stage for Carnival Tuesday 2017. In addition to showcasing the masqueraders from at least five of the biggest bands in Carnival (Bliss, Hart’s, Lost Tribe, Tribe and Yuma), this year’s Socadrome Show at the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain, will feature performances by MX Prime, Chutney Soca Kings Ravi B and Omadarth Maharaj, David Rudder and “French Grammy” (Victorie de la Musiquie) album of the year winner, Calypso Rose. Over 2,000 patrons witnessed the Socadrome show live for free in 2016, this year organizers are offering more – for free! “The Socadrome offers a safe, fun filled day of entertainment featuring various elements of carnival on one stage at no cost to patrone,” says Danielle Jones-Hunte, Socadrome spokesperson.
“We are inviting families to pack a cooler and bring their children out from early to enjoy free doubles, Moko Jumbies, performances by traditional characters, an Extempo challenge featuring Lingo, Gypsy and Black Sage and much, much more.” Seating at the venue is first come, first served and patrons are invited to come out early as free breakfast (doubles) will be served to those seated in the stands at 9am.
The show starts at 9am with the headliner acts scheduled to perform before lunch along with at least three big bands crossing before 1pm.
Bouncy castles will be available for children from 9am. Refreshments will be on sale. “The Socadrome is a free, congestion free alternative to watching mas on the streets,” said Jones Hunte. “We invite families to start their Carnival Tuesday with us.” The Socadrome entertainment ends by 4pm. Food will be on sale. Parking available at Movietowne (for a fee). Gates open at 8:30am. Free breakfast served 9am to 9:30am.
